Trap Shooting

Gross Catholic High School Trap Shooting Information

  • Trap shooting is a sport that is open to boys and girls.
  • Gross Catholic shares a tent at the competitions with Skutt High and Platteview High but practices and shoots as a team with just students from Gross Catholic.
  • The competition season runs for about 8 weeks. It starts in mid-March.
  • The meets are held on Saturdays. There is a 50 shot round before lunch and a 50 shot handicapped round after lunch.
  • The competitions are held at Bellevue Rod & Gun, Papillion Gun Club, Fremont Issac Walton in Valley, Lincoln Trap & Skeet and the State Meet is in Doniphan, NE (near Grand Island).
  • Gross High competes in the Eastern Cornhusker Trapshooting Conference.
  • Practices begin in February.
  • All shooters need to have proof of passing a Hunter’s Safety class by January.
  • Every shooter will need ear and eye protection every time they shoot.
  • Coaches are available at every practice to teach and coach. Coaching may include making sure that the gun fits, teaching the basics of trap, or working on form.
  • The Amateur Trapshooting Association website has lots of good information about the sport.

Be sure to attend a practice to see if Trapshooting is something that you would enjoy! Contact the school office to get the coach's contact information.
