Instrumental Music Director: Ms. Leslie Janak

Gross Catholic musicians have the opportunity to participate in several ensembles; the marching/pep/concert band meets during a scheduled class period during the day, and other various ensembles (jazz band, jazz combo, pit orchestra for school musicals, etc.) rehearse after school.

• Marching band performs at all home football games and several area parades.
• Pep band performs at home volleyball and basketball games.
• Instrumental music students consistently receive superior ratings at District Music Contests and participate in various Honor Ensembles including: All-State Band, All-State Orchestra, UNO Honor Band, UNO Honor Orchestra, UNL Winter Winds & Percussion, NJO Young Lions Big Band, Nebraska Wesleyan Honor Band and the Metro Area Youth Jazz Orchestra (MAYJO).
• The Cougar Band also performs for various community events outside of school including the Opening Ceremonies for the Nebraska Special Olympics, performing at Children’s Hospital for patients and their families, among others.
• Every other year Gross Catholic band students have the opportunity to travel to music festivals. Past tours include Crested Butte, Colorado and a cruise in the Bahamas . In June 2006 the band will participate in a music festival at Walt Disney World.

Junior Band

Gross Catholic also provides a Junior Band Program, serving five elementary schools and over 100 students. The Junior Band Program includes three ensembles: Beginning Band, Advanced Band, and Junior Jazz Band. Each ensemble rehearses and performs at Gross Catholic.
