Student Recognition
Please join us for the 2010 Induction Ceremony on Wednesday, February 24 at 9:00 am in the Gross Catholic Main Gym.
The National Honors Society, founded in 1921, was created to recognize students for their academic achievement, service, leadership and character. Gross Catholic has been a chartered member of the National Honors Society since 1971 and is identified as the Archbishop Gerald T. Bergan Chapter. Membership is open to juniors and seniors. Selection is based on the following criteria:
- Minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average in core classes and maintaining that 3.25 average through graduation in order to wear the honor stole and be recognized at graduation
- Three verified leadership roles (elected, appointed, or voluntary participation or membership in school organizations, community organizations, or church groups)
- Good standing with the Dux Esto Program
- Three faculty endorsements
- One five-paragraph theme
- Completion of probationary NHS sponsored activities
- Willingness to continue to serve the Gross Catholic community
National Honor Society members sponsor the following activities throughout the school year:
- Mix It Up at Lunch Day
- Book drive for children
- BYOM (Bring Your Own Mug – Hot Chocolate Sale
- RAK Week (Random Acts of Kindness)
- Bulletin board maintenance
- Incoming student blog
