Both Ralston/Omaha Gross and Elkhorn/Elkhorn South got a head start on postseason momentum Friday with victories at Elkhorn's Fete Fling swimming and diving invitational.
The Ralston/Gross boys edged the host Stormin' Antlers 558-552.5 for their first invitational win of the season while Elkhorn's girls rolled to a 200-point victory by scoring 549.5 points.
"We weren't shaved and rested, but I think the kids prepared very well and wanted to have a good showing at this meet," Ralston/Gross coach Docker Hartfield said. "This was part of our strategy to swim well as we turn the corner for the championship meets, and we were right on the money today."
The Fete Fling originally was scheduled for Saturday but was bumped up a day because of the threat of heavy snow. The Millard South boys invitational, also scheduled for Saturday, was cancelled, making the Elkhorn meet the final invitational before the four Feb. 11 conference championship meets.
Ralston/Gross was paced by sophomore Garrett Cadotte, who set meet records in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 butterfly. Cadotte solidified his hold on fourth place in the IM with a season-best swim of 2:00.22.
